Buddham Sharanam Gacchami (folk)
Typical Newari Music of Nepal.
Deep in the
valley, inside a small monastery a small butter
lamp is placed in silence. As the flame glows, a
slow hum resonates across the monastery walls.
It is the chant that has origin way back to 2500
years of human history - the prayer for the
enlightened Shakya Muni Buddha who was born in
Kapilavastu. Buddham Sharanam Gacchami is a
prayer of a humble devotee who follows the path
of non-violence, truth and purity with a reason
to live by serving all the sentient beings on
this universe. There are nine other enchanting
melodies played by the Sarangi and accompanied
by Newari rhythm instruments called Khiand Madal.
